Sodium-ion Batteries

“The future is but the present a little farther on.” – Jules Verne

The French novelist wasn’t always right about the future, but the submarine Nautilus in his novels has come true—in some ways.

Nautilus is powered by sodium/mercury batteries with sodium extracted from seawater. A few days ago, China’s CATL unveiled its first sodium-ion batteries to propel commercial cooperation in the #automotive #energy storage field.

CATL says the supply chain for this new technology will be ready by 2023. Until then, we can tell from Verne’s quote: the #EV battery wars are not likely to stop, for now.

🔋Taiwan joins the gigafactory club and will have its first EV battery factory operated by E-One Moli, with a capacity of 1.8 GWh, equivalent to the annual production of 24,000 electric vehicles.

Taiwan Cement Corporation (TCC) to set up thefirst gigafactoryin Taiwan.
