The Sound of Car Doors Closing Is a Trick

We’ve got to have an open mind for the closed doors. To be precise, the car doors.

Car doors should remain closed for safety reasons (of course), but few people get the fact that the sound of a car door closing serves a marketing purpose. Sound designers carefully craft that sturdy sound to suggest a high-end image of cars to customers.

It’s all about #psychoacoustics. People prefer a solid thud to tinny rattling because human mind perception associates the former with quality, and the latter with something cheap and flimsy.

The devil is in the details. From door sashes to sheet metal, every part and component of a car door matters in the heft and thus the sound effect, and sound designers make sure the combination performs a car’s best quality.
